After enough Muslims immigrate into a non-Muslim country, helped by polygamy and high birth rates, they create a "stan" where Sharia is the de facto law, and work ceaselessly to undermine freedom throughout the country, starting by going to the police to complain that they've been "offended" by somebody's free speech and hinting at mass violence by the entire Muslim body if he isn't kowtowed to. In Europe we have the example before our eyes, with the prosecution for "hate speech" of Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders and others, and now a German judge charging chancellor Angela Merkel with a crime for exulting over the death of Osama bin Laden. Meanwhile Muslims are free to roam the streets threatening death to anybody they want with impunity, like the recent pro-bin Laden demonstrations in London. Intimidation of the authorities has restricted everybody's liberties throughout Europe, and don't think it can't happen in the U.S., it's only about numbers, and while the Muslim pop. is still only 1-2%, when it reaches 5% the horrors will surely begin, as history has proven time and again.
But some of your best friends are Muslims? Really, or are you just trying to win arguments with that punchline? To attempt to make fear and revulsion of the ideology of Islam and its freedom-destroying Sharia into something about us, such as racism, is totally to underestimate the danger. Remember how Time kowtowed to Hitler and praised Neville Chamberlain, until it was too late? I bet some of Neville's best friends were Nazis. Sorry, but Muslims aren't ever going to be friends with infidels, because Allah commands them not to, and promises them Hell if they try it; the Quran goes back over 1300 years, long before there was a U.S., and it's given to every Muslim child to imbibe. Yes, many adult Muslims don't read the Quran, and laugh at it, but if they ever pick it up again and begin imbibing it, they become ticking time bombs, like Maj. Nidal Hasan or Anwar al-Awlaki. The basic need is for a world law making it a crime for a child to imbibe the Quran, so that their minds can build natural defenses of reason, logic, maturity and independence before being exposed to its freedom-destroying commands.
As for Sharia, the U.S. has always been humanity's last best hope, and not only must any attempted imposition of any form of Sharia be defeated, but it must lead the world in ending Sharia completely worldwide, starting by stopping immigration from Muslim countries until this is accomplished so that they won't bring Sharia here and makes us fight the same battles over and over.
