Western leftists still don't 'get' that there is no "Palestinian people" that the Jews are occupying the territory of. From 1517-1917 Palestine was just another province of the Ottoman Empire, and was backward and depopulated to boot. If anybody had a claim back then it was the Turks, not Arabs. The Turks permitted Jewish immigration, and only after Jews began settling it and reclaiming the land did a proto-nation emerge, and it was Jewish not Arab. After the U.N.-backed declaration of the state of Israel in 1948 the entire Arab world rose against it, taking advantage of the absence of the Turkish Ottoman Empire but hampered by the dissolution of the caliphate in the 1920s, refusing to allow fleeing Arabs from Palestine to resettle elsewhere in Arab lands, but forcing them back at the hated Jews as cannon fodder in a war for Allah, while reminding them of the latter's offer of paradise for martyrdom, suckahs. We're now in the 2nd generation of these suckers, who won't give up hate for Jews and desire for martyrdom, so a 2-state solution will never work, only resettlement far away from Israel. Until they give up the evil sick ideology of Islam completely, they shouldn't even be considered part of the human race. Poor outnumbered surrounded Israel has a right to exist that goes back to at least 1000 B.C., when Arabs hadn't even invented the camel saddle and were polytheist pagans worshiping Sin itself (the moon god for whom Sinai is named).
